Job overview

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Highly Specialist Paediatric Dietitian to join our dynamic team, which includes four Paediatric Dietitians and a Dietitian Assistant Practitioner. Your primary role will be within the multidisciplinary team of a large specialist allergy service, featuring nurse-led rapid access clinics and immunotherapy treatment. You will manage a busy and complex outpatient allergy caseload and have the opportunity to participate in skin prick testing.

 Additionally, you will deliver dietetic input to the shared care Cystic Fibrosis outpatient caseload and support the general inpatient paediatric dietetic service as needed. This role is based at Peterborough City Hospital and requires travel between sites for clinics, with the possibility of some remote working.

This post attracts a £1000 welcome payment and could be a band 6-7 development opportunity for the right candidate.  Part time options could also be considered to a minimum of 22.5 hours per week.

Our Nutrition and Dietetic Service is a diverse team of 28 staff across multiple hospital sites. The Paediatric Dietetic team is involved in training the wider medical, nursing, and dietetic teams, collaborating with the ICB on guidelines and pathways, and maintaining close links with regional networks and tertiary hospitals. We also support the training of students from the University of Hertfordshire and Dietetic apprenticeships.

 

Main duties of the job

The highly specialist Dietitian working within the paediatric team, develops the quality of the clinical service and staff that deliver it. The post holder will work using an enhanced level of practice applying specialist knowledge and skills in the field of paediatrics and allergy, with caseload management support into other specialist areas such as cystic fibrosis and eating disorders. Working within multi-disciplinary teams, they will assess and treat a specialist complex caseload of patients and make clinical decisions for treatment plans.

They will act as the profession specific lead to support the training and development of staff and students within the nutrition and dietetic team and wider multidisciplinary team. To lead on service development, service improvement, audit and assist in research initiatives to deliver on best practice evidence-based care in line with trust and national priorities. They will be responsible for the delivery of key quality performance indicators linked to providing high quality care.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Complex feeding methods & Nutrition support interventions in paediatrics
  • Complex dietetic interventions and management of Paediatric Allergy

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or Degree followed by a Masters in Dietetics
  • HCPC registered Dietitian
  • Strong evidence of CPD (portfolio) with paediatric accredited courses

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Completed BDA Paediatric Masters modules / Paediatric post graduate qualification or equivalent significant paediatric clinical experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Completed Supplementary Prescribing qualification – appropriate to Dietetics

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Critically appraise evidence and use findings to plan and provide enhanced patient-centred clinical care.
  • Undertake holistic patient-centred assessments using available tools, technologies, and techniques.
  • Plan and facilitate the delivery of practice-based education, training and assessment activities.
  • Use communication strategies suitable for a variety of situations including complex , sensitive and distressing information.
