Specialist Occupational Therapist - Peterborough

Job overview
An exciting opportunity has become available for a motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the stroke therapy service at Peterborough City Hospital. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who really wants to make a difference and develop their knowledge and skills within stroke rehabilitation.
The successful candidate will be part of the multidisciplinary Stroke team treating patients with stroke and neurological conditions. The post is mainly at Peterborough City Hospital however flexibility will be required to provide cross-site cover. The successful applicant should be able to manage a varied and complex clinical caseload and be able to provide person-centred evidence-based stroke rehabilitation. The disposition of being adaptable and innovative is essential for this role. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in service development, clinical audit, supervision and support of students, registered staff and support workers and the provision of training to this staff group. Regular supervision, training and development opportunities will be provided. Weekend working will be required.
**There will be a practical element to the interview so candidates will need to be available to attend for a face to face interview at Peterborough City Hospital**
Main duties of the job
· To ensure safe, efficient and effective delivery of patient focussed care in line with identified evidence based practice, local and national standards
· To act autonomously in the assessment and treatment of stroke patients who may have complex needs
· To work collaboratively within Multidisciplinary and Multi-agency Teams
· To demonstrate a flexible approach to working in support of the whole stroke therapies service at both PCH and HH.
· To participate in delegated projects for clinical audit and service development with the team
· To supervise, train and support occupational therapists, student therapists and support staff, in line with development needs.
· To undertake weekend working as required within service developments
· This role entails 80% Clinical Contact and 20% Operational Management as appropriate within team requirements

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree/Diploma in OT
- HCPC Registered
Desirable criteria
- RCOT Member
Experience
Essential criteria
- Wide variety Band 5 core rotations (to include Stroke)
- Acute NHS Hospital experience
Desirable criteria
- Clinical experience in Neurology / Stroke within past 12 months
- Experience of supervising staff
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Sound clinical and theoretical knowledge of stroke rehabilitation.
- Knowledge of the multi-disciplinary team
- Experience in use of IT system for data recording and Quality Audit
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of post graduate training in stroke/neurological rehabilitation
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to work as a team member and independently
- Good Clinical Reasoning skills
- Ability to present information in logical concise manner
Desirable criteria
- Involvement in service improvement projects
