Job overview

We are looking for an experienced, forward thinking qualified Pharmacy Support Worker who is not afraid of change, who can “think outside the box” and who have the drive and ambition to “make a difference to patient care”, to join our Pharmacy Dispensaries Team based at Peterborough City Hospital, North West Anglia Hospitals Foundation Trust.  

You will help to provide an accurate and efficient service in the pharmacy dispensaries supporting the dispensing of inpatients and outpatient prescriptions. You will be highly motivated and responsible individual with a passion for customer service and teamwork.

You must have an NVQ level 2 dispensary course (including dispensary modules) or equivalent dispensing course e.g. Buttercups / NPA 

Main duties of the job

To assist the Chief Pharmacist in providing comprehensive specialist pharmaceutical care and medicines management by the provision of safe, appropriate and effective clinical pharmacy services within North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, and areas supplied under Service Level Agreements, ensuring compliance with current medicines legislation.

To provide technical assistance and support to the pharmacy teams across the pharmacy service, ensuring a safe, accurate and timely approach in all tasks undertaken.

To support the effectiveness of the technical aspects of the medicines management service and the safe and accurate dispensing of prescriptions.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 2 dispensary course (including dispensary modules) or equivalent dispensing course e.g Buttercups / NPA
  • GCSE Maths, English and Science

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in working with the public and or patients
  • Previous experience of working in community or hospital pharmacy environment
  • Dispensing of medicines
  • Dispensing controlled drugs
  • Experience of handing out of medication to patients / basic level counselling skills
  • Experience of over the counter sales of medication
  • Experience of supervising staff

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Understanding of Pharmacy stock control computer system
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Ascribe / JAC pharmacy system

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good customer care skills
  • Ability to work in a logical and orderly fashion, organising and prioritising workload effectively
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, using initiative and working to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
