Are you an ambitious and innovative physician looking to push the boundaries of your expertise by leading the development of our Renal Services?

This is the perfect opportunity for you make the change and discover your place at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.

You will become an integral part of a supportive and diverse team of nephrology specialists, collaborating to forge and implement a modern responsive nephrology service and acute medical care pathways at our principal acute facilities, Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

The main services you will be responsible for are Outpatient Clinics (Nephrology, Dialysis and Long-Term Transplant follow up), as well as Nephrology Inpatient and on-call services.

Successful candidates, possessing comparable competencies to those already registered with the UK General Medical Council (UK GMC) as specialists, but lacking UK GMC specialist registration, will be offered a one-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of an extension to a second year. This arrangement is designed to provide ample time for the completion of the Certificate in Education and Training in Renal Services (CESR) pathway, which is essential for the acquisition of UK GMC specialist registration.

Should you require further information or wish to schedule an informal meeting, please do not hesitate to contact Dr Frieder Kleemann, Clinical Lead Nephrology at [email protected].

Main duties of the job

The session commitments have been established to include 7.5 PA and 1.5 SPAs dedicated to teaching, audit, research, and professional development activities. Participation in the on-call rota, which operates on a 1:6 basis, will be mandatory.

The job plan will be formulated in collaboration with the Clinical Lead and General Manager, and it will receive ratification from the Divisional Director upon appointment and subsequently on an annual basis.

Our Renal Service caters to a population of 750,000, addressing all aspects of Nephrology, Renal Replacement Therapy, and long-term follow-up for renal transplants. Renal transplants are performed at our tertiary partner centres located in Leicester and Cambridge.

The dialysis program is expanding and currently supports 165 patients receiving unit-based haemodialysis, 45 patients on peritoneal dialysis, and 15 patients undergoing home haemodialysis.

Inpatient renal services are located at Peterborough City Hospital, ward A8, which offers a dialysis service seven days a week, including both haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

You will engage in Nephrology procedures, contribute to education and training, and collaborate with various multi-disciplinary teams. Additionally, you will oversee and mentor junior medical staff, including both doctors and nurses.

A commitment to medical audit, continuing professional development (CPD), and annual revalidation is expected.
