Job overview

The Strategy & Transformation Team (S&T) sits within the Corporate Division of North West Anglia Foundation Trust (NWAFT), under the management of the Deputy Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer.

The S&T team is currently recruiting towards an established long-term team, incorporating Strategy and continuous Improvement. It provides comprehensive support to, and assurance of, major improvement programmes of work across the trust. Ownership and responsibility for delivering these programmes sits within the Clinical Divisions, however the S&T team function is to support and accelerate improvement, enable change processes, working on continuous improvement to achieve these goals.

You will demonstrate effective programme and project management skills, with a credible background of successful improvement realisation, ideally in a health care setting. Knowledge of current project management techniques, methodologies, benchmarking and using best practice that can be translated and applied from the NHS and elsewhere is essential.

Main duties of the job

Our Transformation Programme Managers provide senior project expertise, support, guidance and providing assurance of delivery to timescales and benefits realisation. They provide senior support across the duration of multiple projects, as required by operational teams, from initial scoping, plan development and engagement through to project completion, documentation and post-programme review against Key Performance Indicator improvement and benefits realisation as agreed with the clinical divisions. 

You will work to develop and embed a culture of continuous improvement within the teams they support, leading through role modelling best practice. Key relationships will need to be developed with clinical divisional operational, management and work stream leads to ensure that programmes are delivered smoothly and to a high standard, with clear objectives and realisable benefits and outcomes.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of knowledge, experience and skills
  • Training or experience in Programme / Portfolio Management
  • Formal training Six Sigma (minimum Green Belt) and Lean or equivalent experience
  • Formal training in Quality, service improvement and redesign or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Master’s degree or equivalent level of knowledge, experience and skills
  • Project Management Qualification eg Prince 2 Practitioner
  • Leadership course or qualification

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of influencing (multidisciplinary) teams
  • Experience of Programme Management working with multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of Programme Management including reporting and tracking of action plans
  • Experience of leading and delivering on significant change projects in a complex organisation
  • Experience of effective management of a team
  • Working with sources of benchmarking opportunity and use to inform decision making
  • Working with key stakeholders from multi-disciplinary backgrounds to achieve results and positive culture of delivery
  • Achieving results from staff under direct and indirect control
  • In depth knowledge of Lean and the methodologies which underpin it
  • Able to provide subject matter expertise on transformational change, project management, structured problem solving and data analysis
  • Clear understanding of the processes involved in scheme/project delivery and governance
  • Demonstrable track record of achieving high standards and delivering objectives
Desirable criteria
  • Clear understanding of NHS management and reporting requirements
  • Experience of working within a team dedicated to service improvement
