An intrinsic member of the Urology Surgery Service providing Specialist Urology Nursing alongside the CNS team, Urology Consultants, and members of the multidisciplinary team, focusing on patients with or suspected Urological Urothelial Cancer
To provide a specialist nursing contribution to the clinical management of Urology Patients working in collaboration with multidisciplinary professionals ensuring Urology maintains consistent high standards contributing to the outcomes for patients with Urological conditions
Main duties of the job
To perform at specialist enhanced practitioner level, facilitating early assessment, supporting diagnosis and prompt treatment of patients presenting to North West Anglia Foundation Trust within the inpatient/outpatient setting.
Responding to patient telephone contact using knowledge to assess and respond appropriately to symptoms, concerns and needs of the patient.
Provide a high quality and effective professional nursing service to patients with cancer and their relatives / carers, based upon current evidence of best practice.
The Post Holder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload.
The overriding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Be an accountable professional acting in the best interests of people, putting them first and providing clinical care that is evidence-based, person-centred, safe and compassionate
The Urology Cancer CNS is responsible for the specialist nursing care of patients with cancer.
Demonstrates specialist clinical knowledge underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practice.
Assess the needs of patients/clients within a clinical area, plan and implement individualised holistic nursing care in a sensitive manner
Provide effective and sensitive evidence-based nursing care to the highest standard.
To act as a source of specialist advice for patients, their families and carers on specialist nursing care, including provision of lifestyle advice and the management of conditions.
Promote and facilitate a continuous supportive urology service across Hospital and Community.
Act as an advocate for the patient and facilitate their involvement in decisions
affecting their care.
Provide telephone support/advice service for patients, carers, and other health care professionals to ensure high quality appropriate care and management for patients

Education
Essential criteria
- Fully Qualified Registered Nurse with a valid NMC Number
- Demonstrates ongoing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Advance Communication Skills
Experience
Desirable criteria
- Experience at Band 5 within Urology
- Audit and research experience within the relevant area
- Evidence of leadership qualities
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good clinical knowledge and skills in a surgical environment
- Experience of working effectively both independently and as part of a team
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Urology Cancer Pathways
