Job overview
We are currently looking for a Community Phlebotomist to work as a member of the District nursing team. You will be trained and supervised by registered professionals, undertaking delegated duties, and expected to follow a plan of care based on the specific needs of service users. You will be required to travel across the St Ives and Hunts Locality to provide a phlebotomy service to support patients in their own homes.
We are looking for someone who has:
· Experience of working in the community setting.
· Experience working as a phlebotomist although full training will be provided.
· Experience of caring for and supporting adults with complex health needs.
· Enhanced communication and interpersonal skills.
· The ability to work flexibly across the neighbourhood team, including travelling for work purposes.
· Computer skills, including the use of health electronic patient records e.g SystmOne.
· Good time management skills and the ability to manage individual workload.
· Willing to travel.
Main duties of the job
- The primary activity for this role will be supporting service users with their physical health needs including venepuncture, taking Blood Pressure, weight and height and other tasks as required. This will require working within the community.
- The post holder will provide support and care for service users with mental and physical health needs and to their carers within a multidisciplinary setting. They will undertake assigned tasks as a lone worker but with support from a registered nurse, including assisting in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
- The post holder will be trained to ensure that issues of equality, diversity and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs. · To undertake physical health checks including venepuncture, taking BP, and other tasks as required.
· To work across the community as required
· Support the team in maintaining essential stocks.
· To promote a positive service user experience through proactive listening, being responsive to issues raised and through resolving issues and concerns raised by service users with colleagues and senior members of the team.
· To be responsible for maintaining and conducting oneself in a professional manner towards service users, carers, colleagues and other agencies, at all times.
· To participate in working collaboratively with other Trust services and external agencies to provide seamless care for service users.
· To observe and report to a registered member of the team, any changes which may indicate an alteration in the general wellbeing and safety of a service user. This would include observations around the service user’s presentation, behaviour, mood and verbal content.
· To demonstrate empathy, dignity, respect and compassion toward service users at all times.
· To understand the importance of the relatives/carers contribution to care and conversing with the service users and their relatives/carers, establishing their needs and assisting them as necessary.
· Ensuring that any entries made by the post holder in the patients electronic health record are current, relevant and accurate.
· To promote and support registered staff with the physical health, comfort and wellbeing of service users, including physical observations and taking blood pressure, temperature and pulse under their guidance and supervision.
To ensure good working relationships with colleagues by contributing to the effective running of the service through engaging in clinical discussions and attending appropriate meetings including contributing to neighbourhood team hand-overs.

Person specification
Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCE/GCSE (Maths and English) or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent. Or Care Certificate
- Training relating to ward specialism
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working with people with physical and / or mental health problems.
- Experience of working in a caring capacity.
- Experience of phlebotomy
Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision.
- Effective communication skills both verbally and written including IT literacy (MS Office).
- Enthusiastic and has the ability to participate in full rotational shifts as required
- Shows appropriate professional and personal boundaries.
Knowledge/Understanding
Essential criteria
- Awareness of safeguarding issues
Desirable criteria
- Basic understanding of legislation relating to care including – Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Act, Children’s Act, Equality Act 2010, Health and Safety Act and the Data Protection Act
- Knowledge of NICE guidance.
