Job overview

We are offering an exciting opportunity for  Superintendent Therapeutic Radiographer to join our team in a forward thinking radiotherapy department at Velindre Cancer Centre. This post is based at our new Radiotherapy Satellite centre at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. 

Main duties of the job

  • To act as a technical radiotherapy advisor for the radiotherapy department.
  • Direct line manager for numerous discrete units in service/department, including responsible for the training, supervision and appraisal of staff and students within those areas
  • To develop training, education and setting of objectives and appraisal of health professionals in a variety of settings e.g. formal lectures, seminars, small group training.
  • Responsible for supporting radiotherapy service development through the clinical implementation of technical development strategies and/or process change.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • B.Sc. (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography or Diploma of College of Radiographers DCR (T)
  • Registration with Health Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of CPD (continuing professional development) gained through short courses at Masters level or equivalent
  • Full knowledge of radiation regulations
  • A highly specialised and detailed knowledge and understanding of principles and concepts underpinning the broad range and the more specialist applications and techniques used in radiotherapy
  • Knowledge of current oncology issues including national guidelines
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles and concepts underpinning applications and techniques used in radiotherapy
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of further study to Masters Level
  • Knowledge of COSHH and H & S regulations
  • Leadership or management studies/ qualification
  • Knowledge of research and development
  • Understanding of the NHS in Wales

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Sound practical and technical ability
  • Significant experience of supervision and management of staff including managing recruitment, performance, attendance and disciplinary issues
  • Extensive experience at senior level with wide range of radiotherapy equipment and techniques
