Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Looked after children's nursing team.

The aim is to improve the health outcomes for children and young people that are under the care of the local authority within Cardiff and Vale UHB.

We are a small and very friendly team based in Cardiff that cover Cardiff and Vale local authorities. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have professional responsibility for assessing the health needs of Looked after Children. This will include assessing, implementing and evaluating health care offered to children. They will have a high degree of autonomy and professional accountability and will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to promote and support the protection, health and well-being of children looked after.

The post is permanent and based at Woodlands House, Cardiff.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Specialist Community qualification or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Training in Developmental trauma/attachment disorder
  • Training in emotional health and wellbeing

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Sufficient post registration experience of working with children and young people
  • Community experience in child health
  • Significant safeguarding experience
  • Experience of working within multi-disciplinary & multi-agency framework
Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Speaker
  • Experience of working with Looked After Children and foster carers

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of All Wales child protection procedures
  • Knowledge of current issues and legislation relating to Looked After Children.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of inter-agency procedures and practices for looked after children/young persons.
