Job overview
We are seeking a Higher Biomedical support worker to join the Food, Water & Environmental Microbiology team based at Glangwili hospital in Carmarthen. Candidates will need to be enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational and practical abilities. Have well developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to lead and support individual and team working. It is essential that the post holder adhers to the strict Health and Safety practices within the laboratory, is able to follow written laboratory standard operating procedures and work as part of the team.

The post holder will support the provision of microbiological diagnostic services in conjunction with qualified scientific staff. It is essential that the post holder adhers to the strict Health and Safety practices within the laboratory, is able to follow written laboratory standard operating procedures and work as part of the team.
The successful candidate will participate in weekday, weekend, bank holiday and unsocial hours working, which is both AFC and EWTD compliant. Contractual 37.50 hours to be worked over a working week.

Essential criteria
- GCSE Maths and English and science related subject or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- IBMS Certificate of Achievement Part 1 or willingness to complete.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Basic knowledge of laboratory work
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a UK microbiology laboratory.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to work reliably and efficiently under own initiative and as part of a team
- Able to accurately follow verbal and written instructions and procedures
- Good IT skills

- Previous use of the LIMS.
- Awareness of health & safety issues and good laboratory practice.
