Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to join the Financial Accounting team within Health Education and Improvement Wales.

The post will support the Financial Accountant in providing a high-quality service to the finance team and the wider organisation.

The role will give the individual experience of a wide-range of financial tasks and is a great opportunity to broaden their accountancy skills.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for a wide range of tasks including: -

  • Preparation of the bank reconciliation for HEIW, ensuring the bank account and ledger accurately record the transactions of the organisation.
  • Preparation of monthly VAT returns to HMRC. The postholder will be required to research and understand any VAT or taxation changes facing the organisation, advising the Head of Financial Accounting of the potential impact of any such changes.
  • Leading the agreement of balances processes in HEIW and liaising with colleagues across NHS Wales to resolve any issues.
  • Supporting the Procure to Pay process, including developing and managing the invoice on hold processes to ensure payments are made in a timely manner to suppliers.
  • Assisting the Financial Accountant in the day to day management of the Oracle financial system.
  • Carrying out monthly reviews and audits of the balance sheet position to support the understanding of the financial position of the organisation, ensuring appropriate challenge of the information is in place
  • Assist in the production of working papers for the HEIW Annual Report and Statutory Accounts.

The post holder will also be required to provide support to other roles within the Finance Department and other departments within HEIW as necessary.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Association of Accounting Technician membership or certificate level of a professional accountancy (CCAB) qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of development – education and/or training and CPD or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within a Financial Accounting team in a large complex organisation
  • Experience in the production of year-end accounts
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Oracle
  • Supervision of staff
  • Working in an NHS Finance Setting
