Job overview

This post offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced or emerging leader to develop the respiratory diagnostics and sleep services within Ceredigion. They will work independently to deliver services in the Ceredigion area, supporting STP and PTP trainees. As a senior respiratory physiologist or scientist within the Health Board they will providing clinical leadership and guidance for the respiratory physiologist teams in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, and working with senior sleep physiologists in South Carmarthenshire.

We provide a range of respiratory diagnostic investigations and deliver a local sleep service. Our service is supported by enthusiastic and progressive respiratory consultants within the Health Board and specialist nurses. We maintain strong links with our local education provider.

They should be ready to take on the challenges of leadership and service development within a highly motivated team that is dispersed across the wide geographical area of Hywel Dda. Main duties of the job

To perform with competency and autonomy a range of in depth, highly complex respiratory investigations within respiratory and sleep specialties, interpreting results based on highly developed skills and theoretical knowledge.

Plan and deliver diagnostic services and provide highly specialised advice to patients and healthcare professionals. Interpret national and local standards in order to provide an effective and efficient service to the highest possible standard.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:

Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To act as health board wide clinical lead for respiratory diagnostics and liaising closely with the respiratory teams across sites to develop and improve services throughout Hywel Dda University Health Board. 

To liaise closely with the sleep sciences lead to develop and improve services throughout the region of Hywel Dda University Health Board. 

The clinical lead will act as a mentor to staff performing respiratory investigations, actively encouraging a learning environment and supporting students and junior staff to develop their knowledge and skills.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • BSc Clinical Physiology (Respiratory) or equivalent and clinical experience.
  • Relevant Professional Registration e.g. Registration Council for Clinical Physiologist (RCCP) Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Association for Respiratory Technology and Physiology (ARTP), Part 1 & 2, combined or equivalent and clinical experience.
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate qualification in associated specialty to masters level or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised qualification or learning in teaching or mentorship.
  • Recognised qualification or learning in leadership or management.
  • Recognised qualification or learning in service improvement or change.
  • Clinical assessment skills.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven competence and autonomy in performing and reporting highly specialised respiratory and sleep investigations outlined in job description.
  • Experience of training and supervising students and others.
  • Experience of leading or managing and area or service.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of delivering advanced clinics.
  • Experience of leading and managing a team.
  • Experience of managing clinical competancies within a team.
  • Experience of managing quality and cycles of improvement or change.
