Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic expert Critical Care Nurse, who is committed to the delivery of Critical Care Outreach in ward areas to join us and be a part of our Nurse led team at Glangwili General Hospital. 

We welcome applicants who are highly motivated with a Critical Care background who can demonstrate clinical expertise in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients and meet the person specification.

This post requires motivation, flexibility and initiative, the ability to prioritise workload in challenging situations, and excellent communication skills. 

Main duties of the job

As a Critical Care Outreach Practitioner, you will undertake clinical teaching, and leadership responsibilities. You will be required to demonstrate significant experience in caring for critically ill patients. Previous Critical Care Outreach experience desirable.

This post requires motivation, initiative, the ability to prioritise workload in challenging situations, excellent communication skills, and a flexible approach to work.

The post holder should be able to demonstrate the use of evidence-based practice and be proactive in managing change.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

You will be expected to work days, nights & weekends. 

Part time hours between 28hrs per week.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Level 1 Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • Current NMC registration
  • Knowledge of NMC Codes of Practice
  • Evidence of professional and education development at postgraduate diploma level
  • Recognised Critical Care Course
  • Degree qualification – or working towards a degree.
  • Teaching qualification and/or evidence of proficient teaching skills
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of Clinical Governance
  • Awareness of topical issues in health and social Care
  • Masters degree
  • Previous outreach experience
  • ALS provider/ Instructor

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstratable experience in a critical care environment (Band 5 or 6) ideally in Outreach.
  • Relevant experience with inserting intravenous devices ( or willingness to undertake cannulation) and IV drug administration
  • Evidence of nursing patients with central venous devices, tracheostomies, non - invasive ventilation and arterial blood gas analysis
  • Skills in physical assessment
  • Experience of teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated experience of working in a critical care environment ideally in Outreach
  • ILS and/or ALS
  • Proven advance clinical knowledge and skills in relation to critical care management & assessment
Desirable criteria
  • Has been invloded in audit and research collection
  • Can undertake arterial blood gas stabs
  • Leadership qualification
  • Teaching qualification
  • Led on research/audit/project/change management initatives
  • Experience of undertaking audits, writing reports and presenting to groups of health and social care professionals
