This is a Fixed Term/Secondment vacancy covering Maternity Leave until 17/06/2026.

Carmarthen Town District Nursing Team are looking for a motivated Band 5 nurse to cover Maternity Leave 28.5 hrs per wee.  The area is partially rural so you would have to have good time management skills, be organised, enjoy working as part of a team and as an autonomous practitioner. 

Training will be offered as part of the post. You must have the ability to travel between rural sites in a timely manner where there is limited or no public transport.

Main duties of the job

The role of Community Nurse will involve: -

Catheter management

Palliative care

PICC Line management

Implementing the Nursing Process

Leg Ulcer Management

Wound Management

Venepuncture

Manual Evacuations

Management of drains.

Liaising with Primary Health Care Team and other agencies.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services to almost 400,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest.

Five community hospitals: Amman Valley Hospital and Llandovery Hospital in Carmarthenshire,  Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire.

Two integrated care centres (Aberaeron and Cardigan, Ceredigion).

 

Community facilities, including:

 

48 General Practices (GP surgeries), 49 Dental Practices, 98 Community Pharmacies (chemists), 44 General Ophthalmic Practices (including eye health and low vision services), 38 sites providing mental health and learning disability services, care within your own homes

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Level 1 Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Evidence of personal continuing development, statutory and mandatory training
  • Awareness of Health Board policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to relate theory to practice
  • Understanding of primary health care working
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration experience, in acute services.
  • Teaching and assessing
  • Understanding of clinical governance, health & safety, risk management awareness
  • Community experience
  • Willing to undertake further training as necessary.
  • Evidence of post- registration education – Diploma / Degree Level

Experience
