Job overview

It is an exciting opportunity to join and lead our Endoscopy Pre-assessment service.  It is a relatively "young" service and first in Wales to provide this type of care to our patients.

You will manage the skill mix of the nursing team and other resources effectively for the delivery of a high standard, safe and efficient care of patients booked for endoscopy procedures.

The post holder will work with the multi-disciplinary teams, including Endoscopy sisters, Waiting list, GP’s and Consultants.  

As the Nurse Joint Advisory Group (JAG) Lead, the post holder will oversee the JAG accreditation pathway from start-to-finish, ensuring 
that the assessment process is managed efficiently and to high quality standards across all units in the Health Board.

You will lead on the provision of expert advice in relation to the required JAG standards, e.g. management of audits, guidelines, SOP’s, patient leaflets and service improvement.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for effective and efficient patient care delivery for Pre-assessment service across the Health Board at designated health Board site. 

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and you will be able to provide clinical leadership, act as a mentor and role model, manage complex patient care, and lead the pre-assessment Endoscopy service. 

Provide expert clinical advice regarding pre operative optimisation of patient’s peri – operative care, linking with endoscopists and clinicians to promote a teamwork culture.

Provide clinical, managerial and professional leadership to all staff within the Pre-assessment service. 

Supporting the wider team with the delivery of their projects as well as contributing to the development of policies and procedures.

The post holder will oversee the JAG accreditation pathway from start-to-finish, ensuring that the assessment process is managed efficiently and to high quality standards across all 4 units in the Health Board.

Lead on the provision of expert advice and leadership relating to 
nursing matters for JAG. Keep up to date with any new guidance in terms of the JAG accreditation programme.

Represent and be an ambassador for the Endoscopy Units across 
Hywel Dda University Health Board.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • RGN Level 1, Current NMC Registration
  • BSc in Health Related Subject / willing to work towards
  • Specific clinical training/education related to Pre Assessment
  • Relevant specialist management qualifications to postgraduate diploma level
  • Awareness of current changes to preregistration education
  • Personnel management knowledge
  • Budgetary understanding
  • Health & Safety/Risk Knowledge
  • Evidence of professional development
  • Clinical governance understanding
  • Knowledge of the JAG processes and National Policies relating to Endoscopy to include National Endoscopy Programme (NEP), Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW), Welsh Association for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy (WAGE) and British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG)
  • Knowledge of JETS and how this fits into the nursing agenda and portfolio completed
  • Has completed Endo 1,2 and 3 courses
Desirable criteria
  • Nurse prescribing Qualification
  • IOSHH
  • BSG Clinical or Nursing membership
  • Management Qualification.
  • E.g. ILM / RCN Leadership programme

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-registration experience in a relevant field

  • Evidenced knowledge of RTT targets
  • Experience of working in Endoscopy environment that has JAG accreditation
