Job overview

The successful candidate will be an established leader within the oncology specialty and bring a wealth of experience and innovation to the role. Experience of managing others will be essential, as the post will be responsible for line management for the current Health Board wide CNS Team and therefore we will be looking for an excellent role model who can educate and empower the current team while demonstrating compassionate leadership. 

Experience of managing a patient caseload with minimum supervision within a non-medical model will be required, and the ability to travel across hospital sites dependant on the service and patient needs. The successful applicant will develop strong professional relationships with Oncology colleagues at the South West Wales Cancer Centre at Swansea,  Cancer Pharmacists, the local Systemic Anti-cancer Treatment (SACT) Unit teams, the Acute Oncology Teams,  as well as community teams such as Primary Care and the Community Nursing Teams. Relevant  Masters level  qualifications including Non-medical prescribing, IRMER compliance,  plus SACT experience will be essential requirements for this role.

Main duties of the job

In addition to providing leadership to the wider oncology CNS team the successful candidate will proactively manage mixed clinician SACT toxicity clinics within an outpatient model, including virtual clinics, supporting multiple oncologists and working closely with the Lead Cancer Pharmacist and other pharmacy colleagues. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • RGN on the practising register
  • Masters/Masters level qualification in Oncology/ cancer nursing or equivalent knowledge
  • Registered Non-Medical Prescriber
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited chemotherapy course
  • Management Course
  • Knowledge of the principals of palliative care
  • IR(ME)R qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Cancer/Oncology Nursing experience to masters level
  • Counselling skills and experience
