Job overview

The Specialist Perinatal Service is excited about the development of a new permanent, full time, Perinatal Nursery Nurse post covering Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire. Our Health Board is at the forefront of delivering this innovative, preventative service, by fully integrating Perinatal Service provision within our routine antenatal services, offering all Specialist assessments in antenatal departments to normalise Perinatal Mental Health in our local communities.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Nursery Nurse. It is desirable that the post holder has experience with working with mothers who experience perinatal mental health. The successful candidate will join a passionate, dynamic and creative team, who are focused on ensuring a more secure start in life, for all children, building resilience, which leads to a brighter future.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

In consultation with the perinatal mental health practitioners, the post holder will plan, deliver and evaluate health promoting activities within home, clinic and other community-based settings as agreed.

The post holder will have effective communication skills and develop positive working relationships between all healthcare professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies. Maintaining good communication across all boundaries.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:

Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;

Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;

48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;

Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services.

Quallifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • National Diploma in Childhood Studies or equivalent qualification OR NNEB plus experience to NVQ level 4
Desirable criteria
  • Further qualifications and/or experience related to the job description:  Baby massage qualification  Video interactive guidance qualification  Information Technology/keyboard skills qualifications
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques
  • Knowledge of recent advances in the sphere of public health
  • Knowledge of local and national initiatives in relation to perinatal mental health

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working with infants, children and parents/carers
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in community or health related field
  • Experience with working with mothers who experience perinatal mental health

Language Skills

Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)

Other

  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
