Please be advised that there is a temporary top up for Bands 2 and 3 to reflect the incorporation of the top up to the living wage of £12.60 per hour - £24,638 per annum.

Job overview

We require suitably qualified Sonographers to join the forward thinking teams in our busy Ultrasound departments where role development is encouraged in line with service need.  Candidates suitable for these roles will be qualified with proven experienced in both general and obstetric ultrasound examinations. 

Applicants must be a Registered Health Professional with an appropriate post graduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound and evidence of relevant experience.   Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, be dynamic, kind and support management to meet the needs of our patients and deliver excellent care.  A flexible approach to service delivery is required.

Main duties of the job

You must possess excellent communication skills, be tactful, diplomatic and able to work alone and as part of a team in our busy departments. In addition you may be involved in the supervision of student Radiographers.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services to almost 400,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:
Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest.
Five community hospitals: Amman Valley Hospital and Llandovery Hospital in Carmarthenshire,  Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire.
Two integrated care centres (Aberaeron and Cardigan, Ceredigion).
 

Community facilities, including:

48 General Practices (GP surgeries), 49 Dental Practices, 98 Community Pharmacies (chemists), 44 General Ophthalmic Practices (including eye health and low vision services), 38 sites providing mental health and learning disability services, care within your own homes
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent diploma
  • Case Accredited post graduate certificate or diploma at masters level in Ultrasound
  • HCPC, RCT or registration with relevant professional body eg:NMC, RCN, RCM
  • Sound professional knowledge of imaging modalities (e.g. ANC/TV scanning, Non-obstetric scanning)
  • Evidence of current CPD portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • Highly specialist training in aspects of ultrasound
  • Developed knowledge of a specialised ultrasound imaging e.g. Small parts or vascular

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration professional experience in a diagnostic ultrasound imaging
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of specialist ultrasound imaging techniques
  • Experience with digital/PACS enabled ultrasound equipment.

Other

Essential criteria
  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
  • Flexible approach to needs of the service
Desirable criteria
  • Willing to participate in out-of-hours working
