Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 7 team Leader to manage and lead the health visiting team within North Pembrokeshire, across Crymych/Newport, St David’s, Narberth and Fishguard.  

Applicants must have the ability to travel between sites in a timely manner.
All Applicants must be a registered nurse/midwife and hold a SCPHN – health Visiting qualification. There is a minimum requirement for a highly flexible and enthusiastic approach to this challenging, demanding and rewarding role. 

The post is a permanent 37.5 hours per week position based in Fishguard Surgery, Pembrokeshire.

The successful candidate will be given a period of induction and preceptorship along with ongoing support and supervision.

Main duties of the job

To provide strategic and professional leadership to Health Visitors and develop the service in line with national objectives and ensuring evidence-based care is delivered, whilst managing the service on a day-to-day basis. Provide a high standard of cost effective, safe, individualised Health Visiting to patients in the community setting through assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation of care. 

Work in collaboration with Public Health Colleagues and Local Authority. Contributing to the management of the Health Visiting budgets, the setting, monitoring, and reporting of Health Visiting Key Performance Measures and achievements within the Health Visiting Team. 

Ensuring the continuous development and delivery of a high-quality Specialist Health Visiting service throughout Hywel Dda University Health Board in line with the Healthy Child Wales Programme. Ensure Risk Assessments are in place, recording all hazards and incidents are recorded on Datix in line with Health Board guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Qualified Health Visitor
  • Relevant experience as a health visitor to postgraduate diploma level
  • Knowledge of current health legislation
  • Knowledge of the changing health care environment in relation to the provision of health visiting.
  • Knowledge of child protection policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of child and young person normal health and development
  • Knowledge of principles of specialist community public health nurse practice
  • Knowledge of common child health and development needs
  • Health Visiting HCWP aims and understanding
  • Motivation in development of Health Visiting staff and self and service development
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma / Degree level
  • Qualification in management
  • Willing to work towards Higher Academic achievement
  • Knowledge of health profiling
