Job overview

The Pembrokeshire Osteoporosis Service provides specialist bone health management to the population of Pembrokeshire ranging in age from late teenage years to the very elderly.  We routinely use virtual consultations and provide face to face assessments if required.  Our patient centred practice aims to help patients to make decisions that are right for them.
The post holder will manage their own caseload which will include reviewing new and existing patients as well as attending weekly MDT meetings.   Suitable for ST4 level  or above, or ideal for a General Practitioner wanting to sub-specialise in Osteoporosis working 2 days (4 sessions)  as part of their practise.   Offered as a 24 month appointment initially with a view of progressing to Specialty doctor/Specialist post longer term for the right candidate.  Option to discuss Medical acute on-calls for the right candidate if required.
We are happy to consider a hybrid model involving site-based working for a minimum of one day per week in combination with remote working, as agreed with the successful applicant/responsible Consultant/Service Manager.
The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in audit meetings, MDT’s and postgraduate teaching sessions held by the appropriate Consultants, including revalidation through MARS.

Main duties of the job

The applicant for this additional post will work closely with the existing team managing their own caseload reviewing new and existing patients and participating in weekly MDT meetings. Osteoporosis Services are developing rapidly within the Health Board and include a Health Board wide Fracture Liaison Service which is being established now.  We offer a full range of bone health treatments including non-oral anti-resorptives and different types of anabolic therapy.
This post will offer applicants wide range of opportunities for development of clinical expertise in the assessment and specialist management in osteoporosis and other conditions affecting bone health such as Paget's disease, and steroid related bone loss.  Other potential areas for development include verbal and written communication skills, virtual working in an outpatient setting, audit and quality improvement projects and educational opportunities tailored to the post.
The post will have opportunities for the post holder to settle in the Pembrokeshire area with development to become a Specialist in this field, with Portfolio Pathway support to help you become a Consultant with specialist registration.
