Key Objectives of the role
Delivering a range of comprehensive special care dental treatment
Delivery of intravenous and inhalation services
General and Specialist DGH and community based outpatient clinics
Effective leadership of multidisciplinary staff members with in the organisation
The potential for Health board wide developments and a closer liaison with primary care and social services is substantial and exciting

Working for our organisation
Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 12,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:
Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;
Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
47 general practices (6 of which are managed practices), 45 dental practices (including 4 orthodontic), 96 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Batchelor of Dental Surgery
- MSc in Conscious Sedation or equivalent
- Current GDC registration
- Current Performers number, VT number or completion of competency Equivalence scheme and therefore eligible for immediate inclusion on to Performer list
Desirable criteria
- Appropriate post-graduate qualification to specialist field. Inclusion on Specialist list
Abilities & Skills
Essential criteria
- Good communication skills – interpersonal, written and verbal
- Ability to organise self, clinic and respond to time pressures
- Basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
- Ability to use a clinical computer system
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Experienced in a wide range of special care dentistry
- Minimum 5 years postgraduate experience
- Experience in Special Care dentistry in the previous two years
- Experience in provision of care under General Anaesthesia and conscious sedation
- Knowledge and understanding of change management and behaviour change
- Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development
- Understanding of clinical governance and audit
