Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity in Hywel Dda University Health Board for a full time Band 4 Physiotherapy Technical Instructor to join the Stroke and rehabilitation physiotherapy team. This exciting new role will be supporting  service delivery and patient care across acute and community services in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals to join our stroke and  rehabilitation team to work within our Hywel Dda community. 

We are looking for a positive and motivated individual who has the skills and ability to engage well with their patients, can work under supervision as well as independently, support innovation and training, and has the ability to work flexibly in a team. Relevant evidence of experience in patient care and rehabilitation is desired.

You will have experience of using highly skilled handling techniques to facilitate patient movement, and/or rehabilitation. You will work with others in the team in the delivery of rehabilitation to adults in the acute and community environment, helping them to work towards functional independence. Aspects of the role will include completion of relevant administrative duties and lone domiciliary working.

You should be able to demonstrate clinical reasoning skills to enable you to assess and treat.

The provision of a flexible 7-day service may be expected of this role, based on service need.

To apply, you should have a NVQ level 3 or equivalent plus relevant experience working in rehabilitation in a physical health care setting.

The post holder will be expected to travel in a timely manner within the Hywel Dda University Health Board area.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • To use adapted manual handing techniques to incrementally improve client capacity to be independent.
  • Demonstrates developed manual handling and manipulation skills in order to influence muscle tone, posture and movement.
  • Demonstrates developed visual acuity and perceptual skills through the ability to determine anomalies in a client’s cognitive, perceptual, neurological and biomechanical performance.
  • Basic I.T. Skill
  • Working knowledge of specialist therapeutic equipment appropriate to clinical speciality
Desirable criteria
  • Higher level of skill in IT e.g. data collection systems
  • Creative skills
  • Understands the role of other staff groups in health and social care

Language Skills

Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good command of English Language and basic Maths
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • Relevant courses to support clinical work i.e. hydrotherapy, rebound therapy, bobath, Rehabilitation, falls courses
  • Has a significant knowledge of the model of physiotherapy and the functional/systemic impact of the patient medical condition in order to support therapeutic intervention with arms length supervision. i.e. lone working
  • Broad range of experience as a support worker in physiotherapy service or rehabilitation
Desirable criteria
  • Professional, technical or academic qualification which relate to clinical practice
  • Keyworker/ Case Manager
  • Supervision of staff.
  • Additional clinical or health care related experience
  • Experience of audit
  • Experience of working with groups of patients

Other

Essential criteria
  • Prepared to work flexibly based on work pressures.
  • Able to travel across the Health Board sites in a timely manner
