Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Emergency Nurse Practitioner to join our nurse led unscheduled Walk in Centre in South Pembrokeshire. Situated within the picturesque town of Tenby, the Walk in Centre provides treatment and advice for a range of minor injuries and minor illnesses to both local residents and people visiting on holiday.

The service is open Monday to Friday including bank holidays. This post is 17 hours per week.

The successful applicant will join a friendly, dynamic, and enthusiastic team providing autonomous assessment and management of patients presenting to the department.

The successful candidate will have completed an accredited autonomous practice course in minor injuries Level 7, 30 credits master level or equivalent.

Main duties of the job

The Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) will assess individual patients, determining a differential diagnosis, initiating investigations, and initiating appropriate evidence-based treatment and discharge, transfer, or referral of patients in accordance with agreed clinical guidelines.

Responsible for the delivery of safe and effective nursing care and work collaboratively to ensure the achievement of local and national key performance indicators.

A positive attitude and instrumental in supporting the development of a team culture that improves quality and improved outcomes for patients by improving timeliness and consistency of care.

Possess excellent communication skills and demonstrates Health Board values and promote those values in others.

Works with the ENP Lead to ensure the development of robust education, training and practice developments to meet the needs of the service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse, Level 1 (active NMC registration), Registered Allied Health Professional or Health Care Scientist (active HCPC Registration)
  • Educated to Masters level or possess skills, knowledge, training and experience to its equivalency.
  • Agored Level 7 Diploma in the Autonomous Management of Minor Injuries (QCF) Wales, or equivalent
  • In depth knowledge of the essential standards of quality and safety
  • Extensive knowledge of NMC or HCPC Code/Guidance
  • Understanding of mentorship/ clinical supervision/reflective practice/coaching
  • Knowledge of approaches to education and training for quality and safety
  • Understanding of the unscheduled care agenda
  • Knowledge and application of the research process
Desirable criteria
  • Independent prescriber
  • IQT Bronze/Silver qualification
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) Provider
  • TNCC/ATNC qualification
  • IR(ME)R Training
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methodologies and application to practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Considerable post registration experience in urgent or emergency care / minor injuries unit
  • Able to demonstrate competence at managing a wide spectrum of minor injury presentations
  • Experience of mentoring and supervising nurses/AHPs
  • Experience of audit / quality improvement
  • Experience of managing own workload
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of trainee or qualified ENP/EP role
