We are looking to recruit a pharmacist to cover the Lead Medicines Information Pharmacist’s maternity leave. This represents an excellent opportunity to step into an advanced pharmacist role and gain experience working in networks to ensure that medicines are used safely and appropriately.
The Hywel Dda University Health Board Medicines Advice Service is a friendly, supportive team of pharmacists and technicians who answer medicines information enquiries from a range of healthcare professionals and patients. We take an active role in training a range of healthcare professionals and work collaboratively with the other Welsh Medicines Advice Services on a range of projects. The role also contains the Medicines Safety Officer for the Health Board.
You must hold a Master of Pharmacy degree or equivalent and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and will have completed a post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy.
Main duties of the job
As an Advanced pharmacist you will have an ability to develop effective working relationships both locally, Health Board wide and nationally (with the All Wales Medicines Advice Service Pharmacists) and prioritise your own work. You will need to be reliable, efficient, responsive and able to balance the requirements of the service. The successful post holder will also require excellent communication skills, be self-motivated, innovative and committed to providing high quality care to patients.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:
Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Masters degree in Pharmacy
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Postgraduate MSc or Diploma in area of practice or equivalent experience or qualifications
Desirable criteria
- Accredited Pre-registration tutor or pharmacy diploma tutor
- Independent Prescriber
- Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines (Leeds University) or equivalent if role includes aseptics
- Registered as QC if role includes aseptics
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
Experience
Essential criteria
- Specialist knowledge of medicines management systems and process in an integrated NHS
- Knowledge and experience of healthcare
- Specialist knowledge of own field of practice gained through diploma level training and experience
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge in more than one field
- Practice Research Experience
- Training and education of pharmacy staff and other HCPs
- Experience of managing change
- Experience of service improvement
Other
Essential criteria
- Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
- Flexible approach to needs of the service to undertake on call work, weekend and evening opening
