Job overview

We are looking for a proficient, friendly, conscientious Administrator who works well within in a team to join the Cheshire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (DESP).  

The aim of the Cheshire DESP is to reduce the risk of sight loss amongst people with diabetes by inviting all eligible people for screening to ensure the early detection and appropriate monitoring and treatment of diabetic retinopathy.  

Applicants should be computer literate and have a good knowledge of Excel, with the ability to pick up new computer systems and ways of working easily.  Applicants should have a courteous telephone manner and should be able to prioritise and manage their own workload. It is very important that applicants have attention to detail and have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.

A knowledge of NHS computer systems, diabetic eye screening and Optomize would be desirable but not essential. 

Please be aware:

If an Applicant does not have a Level 3 City and Guilds Certificate in Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Administration then the post holder will start as a Band 2 until a competency framework has been completed. They will then progress to a Band 3.

Hours per week: 35.  We propose a working pattern of (Monday-Thursday  08:30-16:30 with a half hour lunch break and  Friday 08.30-13.30).

Main duties of the job

Tasks include maintaining an accurate database of patients who need to be screened, providing a telephone service to patients and other healthcare professionals, data inputting, completing audits, booking appointments and making referrals to the hospital eye service.

Other tasks include managing the post and maintaining failsafe by ensuring patients are seen in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good general level of education including GCSEs English and Maths
Desirable criteria
  • City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Diabetic Retinopathy Administration
  • ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)
  • Customer care qualification
  • NVQ (National Vocational Qualifications) /Diploma in Administration

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of diabetes and its complications
  • Computer literate i.e. proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook with the ability to easily adjust to in house computer systems
