Lead Occupational Therapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Occupational Therapist to join the Mental Health Intensive Support Team (MhIST).

MhIST is a Trustwide community rehabilitation service that provides specialist assessment, treatment, interventions & support to help people recover from complex mental health problems & to regain the skills & confidence to live in the community.

The successful candidate will offer clinical leadership and support to the Occupational Therapists across the service, alongside supporting with promoting the role of occupational therapy within the wider MDT and ongoing development of the Occupational Therapy pathway within the service. They will also offer expert clinical knowledge to support with occupational therapy assessment, intervention, and evaluation across the service footprint.

We are looking for an experienced and well motivated Occupational therapist with excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills who has previous community experience to join our multidisciplinary teams. The MhIST team are proactive at pre-empting crisis and therefore the successful candidate must also demonstrate excellent skills in overall risk formulation and management.

As the role involves the assessment and treatment of patient's within their own home, access to transport for work purposes is essential.

This post is Trust wide and you can be based in either Wirral, Chester or Macclesfield depending on your preference.

Providing expert assessment and interventions to patients within their own environment using a broad range of therapeutic assessment techniques.

To oversee and support a varied clinical caseload and provide person centred and needs led care.

The supervision of junior staff and students.

To provide leadership to Occupational Therapists working across the MhIST teams.

To provide clinical leadership, expertise and advice to the wider MDT.

To support and lead on quality improvement and represent CWP in appropriate internal and external forums.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy/ Occupational therapy
  • Registration with Health Professions Council.
  • Accreditation as Practice Placement Educator.
  • Significant postgraduate training and evidence of continued professional development
  • Forensic risk assessment training (HCR20, RSVP) or be willing to gain within 12 months of appointment.

  • Relevant Master’s Degree.
  • CLAIT/Europea n Computer Driving Licence or equivalent.
  • Membership of Professional Body
  • First line leadership or management training.

Knowledge and Expertise

  • Good knowledge of clinical governance and clinical audit/research.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good knowledge and awareness of current legislation and guidance pertaining to Mental Health rehabilitation and its implications for Occupational Therapy
  • A good understanding of recovery concepts within Mental Health Rehabilitation services.
  • Ability to work under pressure and set priorities.
  • Good knowledge of effective care management and planning of treatment packages.
  • Ability to manage own caseload and work as part of a team.
  • Group leadership skills
  • Excellent negotiation and organisational skills, with individuals and groups.
  • Good knowledge of the principles of Clinical Governance
  • Computer literacy.
  • Skills in handling and moving.
