Claims and Inquest Manager

Job overview

The post-holder will support the relevant Executive Directors in providing an effective and efficient legal/ inquest service for the Trust.  They will manage the operational management of clinical negligence, employer, property and public liability claims, inquests, and any associated work.  They are responsible for the coordination of all inquest / legal activities.

Part time - 30 hours per week

Main duties of the job

The Manager will function as a resource for Trust staff and maintain close liaison with the coroner’s office to facilitate the inquest process. 

 They will update and maintain accurate data to facilitate reporting.

The post holder will contribute to the Trust’s clinical and corporate governance processes.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Law or equivalent experience working in the NHS or legal services
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Essential IT skills (ECDL) or equivalent (DATIX)
  • Information Governance knowledge – redacting information / Confidentiality / Disclosure of records
Desirable criteria
  • Master’s Degree
  • Relevant specialist postgraduate legal qualification e.g. Legal Practice Course

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of legal issues relating to healthcare
  • Knowledge of clinical negligence, personal injury and healthcare law
  • Knowledge of coronial law, including the inquest process and requirements of the coroner

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of preparation and drafting of formal and complex documents
  • Statistical analysis and presentation of complex information.
  • Previous line management experience
  • Experience of preparing papers for Board level assurance
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of complex case management and interpreting legislation into practical application
  • Experience of managing complex claims in relation to NHS Trusts such as data breaches, clinical negligence claims
