Improvement Manager - Mental Health/Psychosocial Support and Cancer

Job overview

The post holder will be working at the heart of the Cheshire and Merseyside Mental health Programme and across organisational boundaries to contribute to the development and initiation of complex, high-value projects in line with the Trust’s Strategic Vision, the Cheshire and Merseyside Mental Health Programme and the Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance.    

The post holder will work with the Mental Health Programme Manager, Mental Health/Psychosocial Services and Cancer Services across Cheshire and Merseyside , and Clinical leads (from both Cancer and Mental Health/Psychological Services) to lead.

This role will work alongside the Service Improvement Manager working on the cancer and Talking Therapies Pathway.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will play a key role in clinically leading and helping embed new service improvement processes/pathways and best practice across Mental Health/Psychosocial Services and Cancer Services  and will help transfer knowledge to colleagues involved in project implementations to ensure continuous and sustainable improvement.

The successful applicant will have significant clinical leadership experience within a community mental health environment and experience of implementing a wide variety of change projects to a formal methodology within large public sector organisations, preferably within an NHS setting, and will be able to work across organisational boundaries.

Using and championing best practice approaches and a wide range of improvement tools, the post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of a number of improvement projects with multiple stakeholders.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Professional education (Nursing or Therapy) to degree level or equivalent
  • Management (e.g. MBA) or professional qualification at postgraduate level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continual professional development

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a senior clinical management role in the NHS
  • Understanding of NHS and social care
  • Proven experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with key internal and external individuals, developing alliances and partnerships
  • Competent in a range of quality improvement methodologies and knowledge of key service design tools and methodologies eg care pathway re-design, demand and capacity analysis, process mapping, statistical process control, role re-design, lean thinking
  • Knowledge on national evidence on best practice, evidence based models of care, clinical standards and guidelines that need to inform service design and business development.
  • A sound knowledge of and experience of project management skills in the development of new services
  • Proven ability to work in a challenging clinical transformation environment, delivering on targets within agreed timescales
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the impact on service provision of DH strategy and Foundation Trust Status
  • Experience of mental health, learning disabilities, drug and alcohol or community physical care services
  • Clear understanding of strategic direction of CWP
  • Knowledge and understanding of cancer services

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Senior clinical management experience and varied experience of managing andleading change in a variety of services within a community setting.
  • Project management skills (including a track record of delivering highly complex projects)
  • Adaptable and flexible with the ability to act autonomously and manage own work priorities
  • Keeping projects on track in a busy and demanding work environment
  • Experience of dealing with conflict
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Multi-agency working
