Working Full Time: 37.5 hours per week
This is an exciting opportunity for a maternity support worker to become a valued member of our multidisciplinary team. As a band 3, you will support the experience of our service users by providing kind and compassionate clinical care. You will positively contribute to enhance patient flow to minimise avoidable delays through the outpatient services.

Main duties of the job
Under the direction of Midwifery/Medical staff participate in the patient assessment process by completing appropriate clinical tasks in a designated clinical area.
Undertake venepuncture training and maintain clinical competency.
Undertake vaccination training and maintain competency under the supervision of the midwife.
Assist the Registered Midwife in the evaluation of care and completion of patient documents in line with Trust policy.
Participate fully in the delivery of planned midwifery care.
Provide information to enable the effective care planning and service users records are maintained.
Involve patients and carers/relatives in the delivery of care and provide reassurance support to patients and carers/family.
Work collaboratively with others in the Ward to ensure that patient’s needs are met and contribute to effective lines of communication between medical, nursing and administrative staff.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
• The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.
• Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
• Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in healthcare setting
- Understanding of quality and change in the clinical setting
- An understanding of organisation of nursing care
- Willingness to undertake clinical skills required for the speciality
- Basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
- Qualified to administer vaccinations to adults
- Qualified to administer BCG vaccinations to babies
- Venepuncture competency achieved
- Knowledge of using Cerner/ electronic patient records
Skills and abilities
Essential criteria
- Analytical judgement skill and able to present factual information and refer questions to others where appropriate
- Ability to communicate in a variety of settings
- Ability to develop effective relationships with colleagues in the health care setting

- Previous experience working with the public
