Applications are invited for a  Locum Consultant in Rheumatology at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will work alongside the existing 2.7 WTE substantive Consultant Rheumatologists.

Main duties of the job

The population served by Mid Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust is rapidly expanding. In addition, we have an aging population with increasingly complex health care needs. To meet these demands the Division of Medicine and Emergency Care is looking to expand the Consultant workforce to support timely and effective delivery of inpatient and outpatient care aligned to our strategic four care model:
1. What’s wrong with me? We provide the expertise, access and convenience to
diagnose and develop treatment plans for our patients
2. Fix me. We provide medical and surgical services to treat our patients and deliver
optimal outcomes
3. Helping people stay well. We work with carers, patients and their local community to keep them well
4. End of life. We provide the best possible end of life car

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of hospital and community services for people across East Cheshire (population 399K) and West Cheshire and Chester (population 357K). The Trust provides high quality planned and emergency care, cardiac, critical care, child health, maternity services and intermediate care at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post is offered at 6 PA but under the terms of the 2003 Consultant Contract, candidates who wish to conduct private practice would be required to offer an additional programmed activity. The postholder will be expected to undertake 1 programmed activities (PAs) of Supporting Professional Activity per week and 5 programmed activities (PAs) of Direct Clinical Care, 3.5 of which will be Rheumatology Out patient clinics and 1.5 PA admin. There is the opportunity for a successful candidate to take on additional PAs (DCC and SPA) following mutual agreement with the Specialty Clinical Lead and Associate Medical Director.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Additional higher degrees relevant to this post.
  • e.g. MD, PhD. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in rheumatology and GIM via: • CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR or European Community Rights

Experience and Ability

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in rheumatology and general internal medicine
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Full driving licence
Desirable criteria
  • Training in Musculoskeletal ultrasound
  • Experienced in working with Rheumatology MDT teams

Audit and Research

Essential criteria
  • Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Educational Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
  • Recognised teaching skills course. Special interest in role development and staff training
  • Membership of relevant medical associations/learned societies

Other

  • Recognised ability to work within / and provide leadership to the multidisciplinary team
  • Effective communicator. Excellent interpersonal skills
