Consultant Foot and Ankle Surgeon

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

Applications are invited for a  Consultant Foot and Ankle Surgeon to join a friendly, supportive, and dynamic Trauma and Orthopaedic department at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe.

This is a replacement post.

The Orthopaedic Unit comprises of an 18 bedded elective ward and a 32 bedded trauma ward.

The Trust is one of a small number of  hospitals nationally  confirmed to be in an early phase of the national New Hospital Build Programme. This will result in the acute hospital on the Leighton site being completely rebuilt and operational by 2031, providing fantastic opportunities for development and transformation of elective and acute surgical services at MCHFT.

This investment is in addition to the opening of a new NHS Cheshire and Merseyside surgical centre at the Victoria Infirmary, Northwich site in Summer 2025. This new centre will bring together state-of-the-art clinical facilities focusing on  surgical services, including operating theatres as well as recovery areas and consulting rooms. The new Cheshire and Merseyside Surgical Centre at Victoria Infirmary Northwich has an ambition to be a surgical centre of excellence, providing care for people in Cheshire.

Main duties of the job

The applicant will be encouraged and supported to develop the foot and ankle surgery service at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) and will also be expected to provide support for the trauma service.

The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital in the Orthopaedic Department, Surgery and Cancer Division. In addition, they may be required to undertake outpatient clinics at VIN.

The post is offered on a full time, or job share basis, the job plan being intended for a full time appointment with an opportunity to modify this if the post is offered on any other basis.

The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise.  The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training.

The proposed AAC date is 30.04.2025.

The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.
