Job overview

The post holder will be a key member of our developing clinical research team. They will lead on trials and support all activity for specific research studies, from assessing feasibility, facilitation of set up through to completion and close down of studies.  

Hours per week: 33

Fixed term: 8 months

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure the safe and effective management of patients throughout their research journey.

They will support colleagues in the effective management of patients recruited to research within an inpatient or outpatient setting.

They will work with clinical investigators and sponsor companies to assist in the management of trial protocols.

They will ensure data collection is to its highest standards, facilitating the production of good quality research with a commitment to adhering to time and target requirements.

The post holder will be required to support research studies across various specialties and sites within East Cheshire NHS Trust as the service need dictates.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current 1st Level Registered Nurse
  • Degree in healthcare subject or equivalent level of experience
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and additional specialist training
Desirable criteria
  • Good Clinical Practice certificate
  • Mentorship training
  • Advanced communication qualifications
  • Evidence of Consent training

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of ICH- Good Clinical Practice regulations relating to clinical research
  • Understanding of clinical research delivery
  • Analyses problems and implements effective and appropriate solutions
  • Working knowledge of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
  • Motivated and able to motivate others
  • Ability to apply evidence based practice
  • Wide range of clinical skills, including venepuncture
  • Excellent IT skills (in particular word, excel, databases & email)
  • Ability to work autonomously but also as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • A good understanding of current issues relating to the NHS
  • Knowledge of Research Governance, GDPR & the principals of Good Clinical Practice
  • Experience of consenting patients
  • Ability to deal with difficult/sensitive situations
  • Awareness of East Cheshire NHS Trust and / or Christie Hospital policies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post qualification clinical experience
  • Proven experience of working to deadlines
  • Proven experience of dealing with a busy workload
  • Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
Desirable criteria
  • Recent clinical research experience
  • Experience of recruiting and care of patients in Cancer Research trials and / or Oncology Nursing
  • Ability to manage people and change
  • Data management experience
