Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced inspirational and motivated midwifery leader to join the senior midwifery team at East Cheshire Trusts Maternity Unit. 

The successful applicant will directly support the Head of Midwifery, Women's and Children's Services to drive the Maternity Safety and Quality agenda and lead the operational delivery plan with the senior management team. They will also be required to deputise for the Head of Midwifery & Women’s Services as required both inside and outside the organisation advocating for the Directorate, the midwifery profession and  East Cheshire Trust.

The post holder will be required to have previous experience at a senior level within maternity and a proven track record of transformational change and dynamic leadership. They will also be able to demonstrate an innovative approach to quality and safety and looking for a new challenge.

Hours per week: 37.5

Main duties of the job

The key objectives of this role are  to develop midwifery and nursing services in conjunction with the Head of Midwifery and Women’s Services in line with the strategic direction of the trust. Whilst promoting and providing visible, accessible leadership to services, to develop and sustain a culture and an environment in which staff are valued and respected.

You will be required to work jointly with the Head of Midwifery, Clinical Director, Clinical Lead and Service Line Managers to ensure that developments and service improvements are centred on the needs of the patient, responsive to clinical needs and appropriate to the provision of a cost effective, safe, high quality service. You will be required to deliver those quality indicators within the scope of responsibility and work with other Trust personnel in the delivery of all quality indicators.

You will ensure a consistent and co-ordinated approach to the operational management and service provision throughout the area of responsibility and ensure the provision of effective high quality compassionate patient care.

The Deputy Head of Midwifery/Matron will take responsibility for the operational management, co-ordination and continuity of maternity services throughout the sphere of responsibility. In conjunction with Head of Midwifery you will ensure provision of care is consistent with the principles of the national maternity strategy and aligned to professional standards.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Masters level studies or equivalent portfolio of experience.
  • Teaching and Assessing Course or equivalent

  • Suitable Management qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience working in NHS at a senior level
  • Operational management experience of working within midwifery services
  • Budgetary management cost improvement planning and quality assessment
  • Good track record of internal and external partnership working
  • Management of employee relations in accordance with HR policies and procedures
  • Practical experience of leading change management agendas
  • Understanding clinical governance, risk assessment, appraisal and mitigation
  • Proven experience of creating opportunities through partnership working
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of medical specialities, services and the subsequent management of patients within an acute setting
  • Clinical supervision in practice

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to lead and direct clinical teams and proactively manage performance to ensure delivery of key operational standards.
  • Presentation/associated IT skills including Microsoft Word including Excel and Powerpoint applications
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports and present information relevant to sphere of responsibility within agreed timescales
  • Excellent communicator with effective persuasion and negotiation skills and the ability to motivate and influence others.
  • Ability to manage projects and complex tasks requiring analytical and problem solving skills.
