Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Midwife to join our committed and dedicated team as a Practice Development Midwife at East Cheshire Hospital. 

The successful applicant will lead on the ongoing professional development of our Maternity workforce and contribute to the delivery of our high quality maternity service. 

The post holder will organise and facilitate high quality, evidence based training in line with national standards, which is continually evolving to meet the demands of the service.

Main duties of the job

The proficient health care professional who provide a level of expert evidence-based practice and clinical expertise in midwifery. The practitioner requires decision making autonomy, responsibility and accountability for self and others. The practitioner works collaboratively with the team or independently to meet the needs of other staff members and assist with the development of clinical services and enhanced practice across the Trust.

The postholder will be a highly motivated and experienced clinical midwife who will focus on the provision of leadership and clinical advice to support and promote excellence in safe, evidence-based practice for our staff. The postholder will assist the service in supporting our midwives in clinical practice and developing their confidence and competence in their new role. In addition, the postholder will lead the Maternity unit in its training and development programmes for all clinical staff.

The post holder will facilitate practice learning to the highest quality through teaching, assessing, administration and practice-based work whilst supporting the Trust’s Clinical Governance Agenda.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Completed Preceptorship Programme
Desirable criteria
  • MSc Master of Science in Midwifery
  • Teaching qualification such as PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • NIPE (Newborn and Infant Physical Examination) Qualification
  • Professional Midwifery Advocate Qualification

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of current professional issues both locally and nationally
  • Ability to plan own workload, manage time efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills
  • Advanced clinical midwifery expertise
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to exercise own initiative
  • Ability to work as an autonomous midwifery practitioner
  • Ability to deal calmly with a range of personalities and situations

Experience

Essential criteria
  • NHS midwifery experience
  • Teaching experience in higher education or a healthcare setting
  • Experience in supporting junior midwives/student midwives
  • Demonstrate leadership skills
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working
  • Current knowledge of local and national child / adult safeguarding procedures
  • Demonstrates clear vision of patient care and service delivery
  • Experience of involvement in the facilitation of maternity training
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of professional/specialist clinical and managerial leadership expertise
