East Cheshire NHS Trust have an exciting new opportunity for qualified Pharmacy Technicians to start a career path in hospital pharmacy.  We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are keen to expand their experience by joining a pharmacy department committed to high-quality patient care. 

As part of the departments innovation agenda, and following significant investment, we are excited to announce multiple vacancies to join our enthusiastic and dynamic team. 

The post holder will successfully meet set competencies during our expansive training programme designed to provide the required experience to work at the Band 5 level. The length of competency training will be dependent on what level of experience and qualifications the staff member has achieved already.  We offer excellent in house training where you will be supported in developing the skills and knowledge required to move to a Band 5 level.

You will be a qualified Pharmacy Technician with the  BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technician (or recognised equivalent) and a BTEC accuracy checking qualification or equivalent. In addition to this you should have current professional registration with the GPhC.

We are a flexible department and recognise the individual needs of our employees. We will consider both full-time and part-time hours from applicants.

Hours per week: 37.5

Main duties of the job

Your duties will include dispensary services, patient counselling, accuracy checking and ward based medicines optimisation. This will include the safe and effective provision of medication and working as part of a team coordinating the supply of discharge medications on the wards. You will also support the training and development of a range of staff including Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians and Trainee Pharmacists. 

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and effective provision of patient care. You must possess excellent communication and organisational skills in order to provide efficient and safe pharmacy services for patients.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will:

  • Rotate between dispensary and ward-based services. 
  • Be an effective and proactive team member of our team.
  • Be responsible for the supply of medication to patients.
  • Complete Medicines reconciliation for our newly admitted patients.
  • Provide medicines management support to wards.
  • Provide counselling and advice on medications to patients. 
  • Management and processing of discharge prescriptions at ward level.
  • To complete accuracy checking both at ward level and on designated slots within the dispensary.
  • Be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Support service improvement and becoming an integral part of the team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians (or equivalent)
  • Accuracy checking qualification
  • Registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council UK (GPhC)

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Ward Based service experience
  • Significant accuracy checking experience.
  • Understanding hospital pharmacy working practices
  • Post qualification experience as a registered technician
