Job overview

A vacancy has arisen for an Anaesthetic Team Leader to join the busy Operating Theatres  at Macclesfield District General Hospital. We are keen to recruit a motivated and forward thinking team member to assist with the day to day running of the operating theatres.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner who has previous anaesthetic experience and the relevant post-graduate Anaesthetic qualification or Operating Department Practitioner with experience. The successful candidate will lead a team of staff and will assist with areas of management such as sickness, rostering and personal development reviews, in line with trust values.

We are able to offer excellent opportunities in a wide range of specialities including General Surgery, ENT, Orthopaedics, Trauma, Gynaecology, Urology, Ophthalmics and Breast. You will be supported by senior staff within the department who will be able to assist you in the further development of your existing team working, leadership and motivational skills.

Hours per week: 19.00

Main duties of the job

To function as the lead practitioner for a designated area

To assist in the management of the area to ensure excellence in patient care and to have responsibility for staff and service development.

You will demonstrate a flexible approach to working and will co-ordinate with other colleagues in multi-disciplinary teams.

There is a commitment to on call and weekend working.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualification in Operating Department Practitioner
  • Registered General Nurse. with post basic anaesthetic qualification.
  • Teaching and assessing qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma educated.

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of two years post qualification.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Documented evidence of a wide range of advanced anaesthetic skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a mindset that embraces change as an opportunity.
  • Can demonstrate the ability to organise and prioritise workload.

Skills/Knowledge/Ability

Essential criteria
  • Ability to develop and maintain communication with people about difficult matters and/or in difficult situations.
  • Able to demonstrate effective management, interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Evidence of the ability to lead, manage, coordinate, delegate and motivate a theatre team and review performance.
  • Understanding of the skills and knowledge required to develop team members.
  • Experience of mentorship and an ability to identify learning and development needs.

Work Related Circumstances

Essential criteria
  • Flexible working shifts pattern including twilight’s/nights and on call.
  • Good general health and attendance record
  • Ability to work with an unpredictable workload and deal with traumatic situations when they arise.
