We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our Cellular Pathology Team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic BMS to join our department as a key team player. We are passionate about personal development and will support you to gain experience of quality assurance and service improvement while working with modern equipment and helping to maintain our UKAS accreditation. We are also developing our scope of digital pathology reporting, looking to expand our capability. As such an interest in Laboratory IT would be advantageous.
The Histopathology team consists of Histopathology Consultants and trainees, Biomedical Scientists (BMS), Associate Practitioners (AP), support and secretarial staff working together to deliver a high quality service.

Main duties of the job
Main duties of the role will include rotation around the different sections of the laboratory, processing biological samples.
Working to high standards, with in the boundaries of all regulatory bodies and department SOP's including health and safety, COSHH, HTA and ISO 15189 standards.
The post holder will be expected to deputise for the Specialist Biomedical Scientists and be involved in supervision and training of support worker staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will act as a registered Biomedical Scientist, deputising for the Specialist Biomedical Scientist in their absence or as directed. They will delegate as appropriate tasks and duties to more junior staff within the scope and limitations of their responsibility.
They will perform routine and specialist procedures and investigations as an aid to the effective diagnosis and discharge of patients under the supervision of a senior member of staff. The work consists of the analysis of biological specimens using scientific methods utilising various manual, semi-automated and automated techniques and equipment as instructed.
The post holder will rotate around the departmental sections and help maintain routine and other analytical equipment in optimum operational condition as directed.

- IBMS accredited BSc in Biomedical/Healthcare Sciences or has completed a top up programme that is accepted by the IBMS (written confirmation will be required)
- HCPC Registration
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Skills, knowledge and competency
Essential criteria
- Good interpersonal and communication skills – both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of departmental IT systems and efficient data entry skills
- Able to work accurately and follow SOPs
- Able to undertake a variety of manual and automated techniques.
- Accuracy with numbers
- Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity
