Job overview

The post is a replacement post based at Warrington Hospital offered on a permanent basis.  Applications are invited for a Consultant Cardiologist with full training and accreditation with a specialist interest in pacing or cardiac imaging 

 

The appointee will support the development of our services and will contribute to acute cardiology and the provision of outpatient clinics with sub speciality sessions in pacing or cardiac imaging.

 

There is a commitment to the cardiology on-call including “Consultant of the Week” and  7 day working to ensure all unwell cardiology patients are reviewed on a daily basis.

 

Main duties of the job

We will be required to deliver high quality, patient centred care at Warrington Hospital. 

 You will contribute to general cardiology services, including outpatients’ clinics and inpatient ward work as consultant of the week and reviewing outlying patients with cardiac conditions.

 You will shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning

 You will be expected to attend and be actively involved in MDT meetings and directorate clinical governance activity across Cardiology Services.

Teaching and training resident doctors are essential to your professional activity as well as  participating in continuing medical education.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The job plan to commence will be approximately 10 programmed activities (PAs) to include:

1 Cath Lab 

3 Outpatient Clinic

1 Imaging session

On- call

New consultants also attract an additional 0.5 PA SPA for their first 6 months in post.

All consultants are expected to complete a minimum of 42 of their 52 fixed sessions within a full year. Leave requests with 6 weeks’ notice (on pro-rata basis).

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Full GMC registration • Membership of Royal College of Physicians; CST general medicine / acute medicine or specialty medicine • CCT in Cardiology or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • • Higher degree • ALS

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Highly motivated and enthusiastic with a ‘can do attitude’ and to make decisions
  • • High standard of clinical skill & expertise in speciality
  • • Ability to work efficiently and accept a high degree of diagnostic uncertainty in acute cardiology care
  • • Ability to lead and inspire the clinical team
  • • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • • Ability to gain satisfaction from collective team working rather than the rewards of individual patient care pathways
  • • Advanced communication skills
  • • Enthusiasm for education for self and others
  • • Be sensitive to the patient experience
  • • Participation in clinical audit
  • • Good knowledge / understanding of Clinical governance

  • • Basic IT skills
Desirable criteria
  • • Appropriate research to acute cardiac care
  • • BSE or equivalent (EACVI, ASE) accreditation for echo modalities ( TTEcho, TOE, stress echo)
  • • BHRS or equivalent (EHRA) accreditation for pacing

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience of and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff
  • • High level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Cardiology
  • • Understanding of current issues within Cardiology
  • • Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
  • • Evidence of personal involvement in management and administrative roles in healthcare
  • •• Shows ability to work with and lead with others across professions

  • • Satisfactory DBS Disclosure check
  • • Caring, honest and reliable
  • • Able to foster good working relationships with staff
  • • Able and willing to work with consultant colleagues in equitable sharing of clinical, nonclinical duties
  • An interest which improves the core clinical service for Cardiology patients
  • • Ability to do 8 hour shifts on a busy Cardiology unit
  • • Ability to manage the intensity of a Cardiology Ward
  • • Be willing to work across both sites within the Trust
