Biomedical Scientist

Job overview

As a Biomedical Scientist the post holder will be expected work within the professional standards of the Health Professions Council (HCPC) and maintain a portfolio of evidence to support their continuous professional development (CPD).

After training the post holder will be required to participate in out of hours rota's including extended working days, weekends and oncall.

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within the Microbiology department undertaking a range of scientific procedures using automated and manual processes with a range of biological samples to contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of infectious diseases. 

All staff within the department are encouraged to actively participate in the departments quality management system.

The Microbiology department is an IBMS accredited training laboratory and supports staff in completion of the IBMS Specialist Portfolio.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Microbiology laboratory is well equipped with a Biomerieux MS and VITEKS for automated identification and sensitivity testing, and a VIDAS immunoassay system. Two VIRTUO's are in place for automated blood culture monitoring and the laboratory has a range of molecular platforms including the SeroSep EntericBio system, Cepheid Genexpert and the Biomerieux TORCH. 

The post holder will be required to work as part of the Microbiology team and will be expected to rotate through all sections of the department.
