South Tees NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting Locum Consultants in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia to join our existing team of 13 Consultants.  The term is fixed at 12 months and is in preparation for planned substantive posts which will be advertised for appointment in the near future.

Applicants should possess full GMC registration, FRCA (or equivalent) and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training ((CCT) or equivalent) at the time of interview. You must have advanced experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and cardiothoracic critical care.

 

Main duties of the job

We are looking for dynamic forward thinking cardiothoracic anaesthetists to join us and continue the development of the service. You will join a friendly, committed team to provide anaesthesia and critical care for approximately 1000 cardiac and 700 thoracic cases per year. 

Our varied caseload includes minimally invasive aortic and mitral surgery, major aortic work, an established TAVI programme, VAT lobectomies, thymectomies and robotic thoracic surgery. A robotic mitral surgery programme is in the planning stages.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the GMC with licence to practise
  • FRCA or equivalent Diploma
  • CCT (or equivalent)) with entry on Specialist Register for Anaesthesia or within six months of anticipated CCT date on the date of interview. (equivalence must be confirmed with GMC by date of interview).
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in anaesthesia
  • Evidence of compliance with standards of “Good Medical Practice”
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification (European, British or American) in Transoesophageal echo (TOE)
  • Accreditation or Qualification in Critical Care Medicine
  • Accreditation or Qualification in Critical Care Ultrasound
  • Post-Graduate Prizes

Clinical Skills and Training

Essential criteria
  • Progression through training consistent with personal circumstances
  • Minimum of 12 months recent advanced experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care at advanced trainee, post-CCT, fellow or Consultant level at the time of appointment.
  • Evidence of ability to use and interpret TOE
  • Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion on a range of clinical problems
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • ALS and CALS provider
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant medical experience outside anaesthesia
  • Experience and interest in critical care
  • Experience of anaesthesia for minimally invasive cardiac surgery, major aortic surgery and robotic thoracic surgery
  • Experience of working in an NHS Hospital

Teaching Experience

Essential criteria
  • Active regular participation in teaching and training of medical and para-medical colleagues
  • Evidence of achieving GMC standards to be recognised as a Clinical Supervisor
Desirable criteria
  • Extensive / formal experience in medical education including regional teaching
  • Formal qualification in Medical Education
