An opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated nurse to join our team on the Coronary Care Unit (CCU). 

Main duties of the job

To act as a clinical expert within the field of coronary / critical care and demonstrate advanced specialist skills in the assessment and treatment of acute cardiac patients.

To be responsible for the management of the unit and staff during a span of duty, offering both specialist clinical and professional support to all members of staff (medical and nursing) thus ensuring an effective clinical service.  They will frequently co-ordinate a shift acting as clinical expert to CCU staff and other interlinked areas such as accident / emergency and acute admissions unit. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate advanced clinical assessment skills to triage cardiac patients to an appropriate destination liaising with relevant departments and staff. They will assess patients for emergency cardiac intervention. In addition to a shift management role the post holder will be expected to mentor, manage and develop their own individual groups of staff and be independently responsible for appraisals, sickness monitoring, discipline and grievance management.

This is a regional centre providing acute coronary care services for patients from Durham and Tees Valley in addition to the local population. Experience in a Coronary Care setting is essential, ALS qualification also essential. Experience of working within Cardiac Catheter Lab is also preferred. The successful applicants will have opportunity to develop their clinical skills supported by in-house training.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC Adult Nurse Registration.
  • Masters level healthcare qualification (or working towards).
  • Recognised university accredited qualification in advanced ECG and rhythm analysis (may be part of above).
  • Recognised university accredited qualification in physical assessment skills (may be part of above).
  • Current Advanced Life Support certification.
  • Current Independent Nurse Prescriber status.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good knowledge of contemporary practice in cardiology and accuracy in analysis analysis of 12-lead ECGs and cardiac rhythms.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of acute cardiology nursing experience at band 6 level.
