Job overview
Full time post working 24/7 shift system.
The Pathology departments at University Hospitals North Tees and Hartlepool (NTH) and South Tees Hospitals (STH) are working collaboratively to develop a joint service called Tees Valley Pathology (TVP) with services being delivered on all hospital sites.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with appropriate experience, knowledge and skills to join our scientific team and participate in the delivery of services provided by the Blood Science directorate which has laboratories at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton. This will involve delivery of scientific support duties within Biochemistry, General Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion on both sites.
You will be expected to participate on a full shift system to cover weekday, weekend, evening and night sessions.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach to working hours, participating and changing their shift patterns to coincide with the departmental needs as required on both sites.
Acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills for lone working in Blood Science and the responsibility of issuing blood products at the Friarage site will be a pre-requisite to advancement from Band 3 to an Associate Practitioner Band 4 position.

Essential criteria
- Foundation degree, or IBMS part 2 portfolio of competence, or level 4 NVQ/BTEC, 2 A-levels, science degree
Desirable criteria
- Experience of computer packages e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. or equivalent
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques.
- Basic understanding of Human Biology.
- Knowledge of basic scientific terminology.
