Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Otolaryngology team at South Tees. You will benefit from a committed group of trainers, with a strong record in facilitating exam success and enhancing career progression.
The James Cook University Hospital is a major centre for Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery in both adults and children. It is the base for the North East Cochlear Implant Programme, a head and neck cancer centre and delivers a comprehensive range of Otolaryngology services.
Main duties of the job
The Trust Doctor is an active member of the team with responsibility for day to day care of ENT patients under supervision of registrars and consultants. Active participation in regular outpatient and inpatient work, including emergency duty, is expected and forms an essential part of training. Self directed learning is encouraged with use of the wide range of educational opportunities available.
Theatre attendance is encouraged as well as observing specialist clinics and working with fellow non-medical professionals. Dedicated theatre teaching sessions are to be provided for this specific post, pending the competence and interest of the successful candidate.

JCUH is a Major Trauma Centre and the successful candidate will contribute to the on-call rota and the ICU Tracheostomy service. As a University Hospital we deliver teaching and training. At JCUH we encourage development of the Consultant team and anticipate supporting all colleagues.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential criteria
- Full registration with General Medical Council
- Experience of clinical audit. Regular attendance at and participation in audit meetings
Desirable criteria
- MRCS
- A range of ENT experience
Personal Skills
Essential criteria
- Experience in supervision of junior medical staff and relevant staff in other disciplines.
