Applications are invited for the above post based at The James Cook University Hospital to commence 18th August 2024 for a period of 6 months with potential to be extended to 12 months.

South Tees Trust is one of the largest in the country and provides a comprehensive range of medical and surgical specialities. This is a joint post based at The James Cook University Hospital between Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery and Neurosurgery and in association with the Regional Spinal Cord Injuries Centre.

Main duties of the job

The post will provide training in all aspects of spinal surgery in a unit with an active research programme. The Spinal Surgery service comprises of four Neurosurgeons and four Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeons. The service operates within the context of a major trust with full back up including a Level 1 Trauma Centre, Regional Complex Spinal Hub, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Cancer Centre, Plastic Surgery and Neurophysiological Services.

Adequate UK clinical experience and MRCS qualification are highly desirable.

The ideal candidate would be an enthusiastic keen learner and team worker who is willing to work in a busy spinal team, have more exposure to complex spinal surgery and to be ready to have a job plan at different hospitals/ centres.

Professional Qualification

Essential criteria
  • MRCS (with log book of operations)
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
Desirable criteria
  • FRCS(Tr&Orth or SN) or Equivalent or working towards
  • CCT/CESR (or working towards)

Training

Essential criteria
  • Log book of operations (assisted, performed)
  • Experience of working in UK as Junior doctor
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance at appropriate professional courses and meetings.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience of ST3+ registrar level work
  • Experience of clinical audit.
  • Evidence of participation in audit
  • Regular attendance at and participation in audit meetings.
Desirable criteria
  • An understanding of clinical governance.

Teaching

Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching medical and other staff.
