Job overview

The Friarage Hospital is seeking applications for General Practitioners to work in the Friarage Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).  Please see attached Job Description for this post.

The department has been on an incredible journey since transitioning from an A&E in March 2019. The public consultation received overwhelming support for the 24/7 service and the department has trained a fantastic multidisciplinary workforce who’ve demonstrated incredible resilience through the pandemic. The team are now incredibly proud to be leading the way for Urgent Care across North Yorkshire and to be sharing their story with other UTCs.

Main duties of the job

This is a clinical post within a training department. The post holder will work to deliver high quality urgent care to patients presenting to the Friarage Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). The role has an educational aspect involving the support of all trainees, including Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Care Practitioners and GP Registrars, to develop their skills for independent practice through shop floor supervision, case-based discussion and completion of clinical assessments and multi-source feedback for e-portfolios. 

The core functions of this post are:

  • Providing senior clinical leadership in the department and support to the unit manager
  • Provide senior clinical decision making to the team Supporting training of GP registrars and emergency nurse and care practitioners 
  • Extensive urgent care experience including full breadth of primary care and minor injuries experience

Additional responsibilities to be shared between members of the core UTC medical team include:

  • Willingness to work as part of team towards delivery of UECN/ICB urgent care aims
  • Collaborative working with other urgent care departments including GP OOH and A&E
  • Will provide support in implementation of new IT systems
  • Participate in Audit
  • Responding to complaints, Datix and Significant events in conjunction with the Unit Manager and Clinical Director

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • • Qualified general practitioner (MRCGP) with current GMC licence to practice • Communication and language skills (ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English)

Education

Desirable criteria
  • • Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education (PGCertMedEd) • Further relevant postgraduate qualifications (e.g. Diploma or Masters)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience and ability to work in multi-professional team • Understanding of Clinical Governance • Ability to motivate and influence others across disciplines • Ability to network • Awareness of NHS Policy and Development • Evidence of financial awareness and efficient use of resources (e.g. people, equipment, training approaches) • Evidence of teaching experience
