Job overview

The advertised post is for a full time substantive post.  The post is for ten PA’s per week, of which it is anticipated seven will be for direct clinical care and three for supporting professional activity (SPA). Additional DCC sessions may be available by separate discussion and the job planning process.  DCC sessions will be to provide emergency on call cover and anaesthesia for elective theatre lists. The non emergency DCC’s are open to negotiation depending on the interests of the successful candidate and the needs of the department.

The on call requirement for the post is to join the single tier consultant on call (currently 1 in 21). At present the single tier consultant on-call requires the consultant to cover emergency theatres, ITU and obstetrics. All consultants also share additional daytime weekend cover on a 1 in 15 basis to provide greater consultant presence during weekend days. There are 3 resident trainees / specialty doctors covering ITU, theatres and obstetrics.

All consultant anaesthetists are expected to be competent to anaesthetise children down to one year old and to be able to help critically ill children younger than this while awaiting retrieval to a tertiary centre.

Main duties of the job

We expect the applicant to be happy and capable to teach novice anaesthetists in theatre. Ideally, we are looking for someone who enjoys teaching and would join in with the trainee teaching rota
