Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our current team of eleven consultants in a friendly & supportive department, leading and delivering Womens health services in beautiful central North Wales. This is a full time substantive post in obstetrics & gynaecology, with the main commitment in gynae oncology. It includes contribution to the non-resident on call rota for both obstetrics and gynaecology. This is a replacement post but with a new emphasis to support the gynaecology oncology service, and experience of laparoscopic hysterectomy is desired to support the development of laparoscopic surgery on site. 

The post will be of interest to both a newly qualified consultant as well as an established consultant with special interest in gynae oncology and/or benign gynaecology/minimal access surgery. The post will be based at Glan Clwyd Hospital in central North Wales.  The post is advertised as 10 sessions per week, additional sessions may be available by mutual agreement. 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to participate within the non-resident third on-call rota which is currently 1 in 10 weekends, and 1 in 8 weekday nights, with prospective cover for leave. Out of hours work is currently paid at band 3 intensity but is subject to review at appointment and annually thereafter.


There will be a commitment to undertake general obstetrics & gynaecology work. In addition, special interests will be encouraged to support service needs. ATSM or equivalent training in Gynae oncology and ability to perform laparoscopic hysterectomy, outpatient hysteroscopy would be particularly welcome as would  BSCCP accredited training in colposcopy or vulval ATSM accredited training.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Appropriate experience in training grade posts leading to accreditation for UK CCST or recognised equivalent (Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of interview
  • • Equivalent training accepted by College/GMC for Specialist Register (CESR)
  • • Experience of working in busy tertiary units at Registrar level or higher
Desirable criteria
  • • Additional higher medical / scientific degree relevant to specialty

Knowledge /Qualification

Essential criteria
  • • MRCOG or equivalent appropriate specialist qualification
  • • Inclusion on Specialist Register of GMC or eligible for award of CCST, CESR or recognised equivalent within 6 months of interview date
  • • ATSM Oncology
Desirable criteria
  • • Additional relevant degree(s)
  • • Completed ATSM’s relevant to post
  • • ATSM Benign Abdominal Surgery –Open & Laparoscopic

Clinical experience and effectiveness

  • • Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and Gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
  • • Appropriate experience & training relevant to special interest
  • • Ability to offer expert opinion & take full & independent responsibility for clinical care of patients within obstetrics & gynaecology

  • • Computer skills Evidence of effective service development Additional clinical experience/training that may be required

Management and administrative experience

  • • Proven engagement in management activities
