The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2024/2025 and will be implemented in November 2024 backdated to 1st April 2024 where applicable.
Job overview
The Health Board wishes to appoint two full time locum Consultant Dermatologists, posts will be based at either Wrexham Maelor Hospital or Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. There is a requirement for cross site working with peripheral clinics. Both posts will be supporting Ysbyty Gwynedd locality and will provide a variety of virtual and face to face Senior Medical cover as part of a hub and spoke model.
Main duties of the job
These posts are full time posts, which have arisen due to a change in service model. There is a requirement for cross site working with some peripheral clinics. The posts are for ten PA’s per week of which, typically, seven will be for direct clinical care (DCC) and three for supporting professional activity (SPA), as specified in the Welsh Consultant contract.
Dermatology is managed in Community Directorate (a mixture of community and some acute based services) with the base for Dermatology remaining in the acute sectors of Wrexham Maelor Hospital and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. The dermatology department has excellent relationships with the oral and maxillofacial department who provide the head and neck plastic surgery services in North Wales.
There is no out of hour on call requirement for this post.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GMC License to practice
Desirable criteria
- Other Higher Degree or Diploma qualification
- Name on Specialist Register for Dermatology OR within six months of obtaining a CCT at the time of the interview
Clinical Skills and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience and training in acute and general dermatology, and skin oncology
- Understanding of clinical risk management
- Ability to communicate well with patients and staff
- Familiarity with NHS
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Desirable criteria
- Masters degree in clinical practice
Leadership, Management and Administrative Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues in an MDT setting
- Ability and willingness to work within the organisation’s performance framework and targets
Desirable criteria
- Management experience
- Management or leadership qualification
- Quality improvement training
