Job overview

This is an opportunity for a dynamic individual to join the children's community nursing teams in a newly created role, that is part of the wider service transformation.

The post holder will support the Children’s Community Nurses (CCN’s), Special School Nurses (SSN’s) and Paediatric Epilepsy Nurse Specialists (PENS) with providing high quality, holistic, family centred care for children/young people with a variety of different nursing needs including; long term conditions and complex needs, life limiting conditions, palliative care and acute short term nursing interventions to include phlebotomy.

The post holder could be required to work anywhere in Cornwall to meet the needs of the commissioned service. 

The service is moving to a 7 day week  0800-1800 provision including bank holidays. This role will be predominantly Monday to Friday, but there may be an expectation to support at weekends as required. 

Whilst previous experience of working with children and young people is essential for this role, any additional skills training will be provided, with regular supervision and continuous development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will protect, safeguard and promote the wellbeing of children in accordance with ‘The Children Act’ (2004) and ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ (2018).

To assist in the provision of nursing care to children/ young people in the community, regularly working without direct supervision but as a member of the proactive nursing team.

To assist in the completion of patient and routine records, report information to the registered nurse on progress of child/young person and any variance/change in their care management.

To obtain blood and other relevant samples from children and young People through either venous or capillary as requested for testing in the community.

To support with the delivery of equipment/ consumables to families.

Education, Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 qualification in childcare or equivalent experience of working with children
  • GCSE Maths & English or equivalent qualification
  • Previous experience of working with children and young people in a health, social care, education setting
  • Trained in Paediatric Venepuncture or willingness to undertake relevant training
Desirable criteria
  • Additional relevant training in Healthcare
