Medical Laboratory Assistant

Applications are invited for the post of Medical Laboratory Assistant to work within Blood Sciences, at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro.

It's an exciting time with a new Blood Sciences laboratory open covering haematology, blood transfusion and clinical chemistry. The job purpose is to provide laboratory, reception, clerical and data entry support  cover as part of a laboratory team.

This is a  6 month fixed term, full time post working 37.5 hours per week. A flexible attitude to working hours is essential. The hours are currently within a framework of 08.00–20.00 including weekend and Bank Holiday working. These arrangements are subject to continuing review.

 The receipt of samples from within the hospital and surrounding GP practices.

Sample preparation, request data entry and presentation for analysis as appropriate.

To support the specific and technical and clerical duties alongside Biomedical Scientists as part of a team to facilitate the smooth running of the service.

  • Experience of using analysers

  • Experience of LIMS (WinPath) data entry
  • Previous NHS laboratory experience

Skills

  • Must be precise, methodical and dextrous
  • Must have the ability to work with human fluid and tissue
  • Adept at using automation
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety in relation to the laboratory including the disposal of waste.
